NB is a social annotation system designed to support discussion and collaborative learning at scale around shared readings. It enables people to annotate texts, respond to one another, and surface ideas directly in context, turning reading into a collective activity rather than an individual one.

In this work, I led the design, development, and research, exploring interaction design interventions for supporting learning and discussion at scale on the web. In addition, we investigated how large language models (LLMs) could be used to address social barriers to participation such as shyness, confidence, and motivation by shaping how prompts, feedback, and visibility are presented to learners. The project combines system building with empirical study to understand how people engage with collaborative learning tools in practice.
